For those involved in Book Club, we'll begin reading the Great Gatsby next week. And because that isn't very long, we'll start with Frankenstein. I decided to keep the month in mind after all. I sincerely hope that you don't need me to tell you who wro They're by F. Scott Fitzgerald and Mary Shelley, respectively.

If anyone would like to join discussion about either books - and they're not part of the book club - they're more than welcome to do so.

I'd like to thank everyone who wished me a Happy Birthday or sent me a present. Hailey nearly scarring me aside It really was an awesome birthday. For those of you planning on giving me a present later, I say thank you to you too.

Now, to continue onto different matters, I wanted to propose an idea to the more -inclined students. With the growing interest in student-generated clubs, I was curious to see how many would be willing to join if I began an Anime and Manga club. The student leader of the film club - Nate Roberts - and the faculty advisor are willing to let me use whatever would be needed to watch films and episodes. The library also has a small, but not unimpressive, selection of manga. I, of course, would be willing to use some of my own material. The beauty of magic. But I'd still appreciate if people didn't touch my stuff with dirty I would expect that they'd be treated with respect.

I think that it would be something interesting to do; both for those who have always had an interest and those with a growing one.

I've been contemplating on establishing an anime club for weeks now. With the interest shown in other [possible] student-generated clubs I think that it might go over well; it would seem mostly with the Salem students. The question is whether or not it will continue being worth since initial interest doesn't equal continued interest. Compiling a pro and con list here would make it easier to decide especially since I don't want to start using my new stationery until Mon especially since it's almost December. Which reminds me, Christmas Around The World theme for the common room.

    Con
    1. My own sister considered starting a club before I did. That's not really a con. I just had nothing to put here.
    2. The biggest group of "nerds" in the school other than HILT look to be Americans interested in comic books. American comics are awful.
    3. I told Nate that I'd look into joining the film club. This would mean a lot less time for that.
    4. The title is misleading. However, if I call it the manga club, I doubt many people will even know what it is. There's also the fact that I'll end up spending the time with a bunch of posers who have seen one episode of Dragon Ball and think they're experts. And the fact that animes cut out the good parts.

    Pro
    1. Being responsible for starting a club looks good on my resume.
    2. There will be a group of people who could provide me with a list of new mangas to read. If they're not all Americans, although, comic books have improved in the last 50 years from what I've seen. They certainly have a whole lot more graphic novels.
    3. Who needs time? It's not like I don't get bored after doing home work anyway. Another club is a good excuse to leave the common room.
    4. Think of a better title-name. Conan was a good anime. Is. Big O is too. All right, if I'm going to be fair, not all animes are bad renditions of mangas. Many of them aren't. Posers are still irritating. On a very small plus side at least they're enthusiastic about it and in comparison I'd take them over Byron lovers any day.
    5. A way to keep my sanity when we read Gothic rubbish during the book club. Rubbish is a little strong, admittedly,, however, Byron was a melodramatic tosspot. My Go Hufflepuff, I want to bleach my eyes whenever we read Byron and then I have to sit through some time-displaced dandy go on about how Byron is dramatic. Byron had sex with his cousin and that is the basis of his world knowledge. Homer was dramatic. Sappho is dramatic. Shelley is more dramatic than Byron. However, people can even conceive that the
    6. Now my list is going to be uneven. I knew I should have done Pro first and continued on in a more coherent direction.
    7. I'll have to continue

I'd like to add my own thanks to Salem for a well-constructed meal. It was certainly a pleasant spot on my Thursday afternoon.

[Team America: Nicolas, James, Anna, and Jana]

We're focusing on New Orleans, thanks to Jonah Ryder's mes cookbook, and are going to serve an appetizer, the main dish, and a dessert.

    Our meal:

    - Sweet potato and apple salad

    - Shrimp etouffee

    - And a pudding.

Comment below with the extent of your cooking skills, which part of the meal you'd like to focus on, and what you're going to contribute.

I think that we should also add a non-alcoholic beverage.

I found myself staring at the clouds for a good couple of minutes while jogging this morning. I was probably more distracted by them than I should have been but I could have sword that one of them was a badger with a sword. It was, I have to say, an interesting sight. I used to love cloud watching as a kid.

    God, I love Mondays.

I wanted to ask you a question.

Are you planning anything in the common room for Halloween? I had some ideas but if you did too, we could work together on setting things up.
